How long does it take to get a Pasadena divorce? Although it's common for people seeking a divorce to want the process over as soon as possible, the answer to this question really depends on your circumstances. The minimum waiting period in California is six months, but uncooperative spouses can cause your case to drag out much longer.
The case of reality star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries provides an example of an exceptionally long divorce. Recently the public learned that Kardashian's divorce proceedings have now lasted five times longer than her marriage to Humphries. The couple was only married for 72 days, but divorce proceedings are still going strong one year after the initial paperwork was filed.
The main reason for this delay is that Kris Humphries filed papers for both an annulment on the basis of fraud and a legal separation. He states that Kardashian wanted to marry him as a rating's ploy and that he was not aware she did not intended to commit to the marriage. Humphries has been quoted as saying, "To me it was real. I would never go through something or do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in, so I can really only speak for myself in terms of that."
Annulments are hard to get however, so Humphries may have filed the legal separation request to cover his bases in case his annulment request is denied. A legal separation takes care of many of the same issues as a divorce filing, but does not allow either party to remarry. It is most commonly used when one spouse has a religious or moral objection to divorce. Another possible reason for the exceptionally long divorce proceedings is that Kardashian's lawyers are reportedly delaying the discovery process and have not been cooperative when asked to provide necessary information.
