Actress Debra Messing Separates from Husband

If you're going through a legal separation in Pasadena, you are no stranger to big changes and awkward adjustment periods. Turns out, neither is Emmy Award-winning actress Debra Messing. Messing, who will next be seen in the musical-drama Smash, announced last week that she and her writer-producer husband, Daniel Zelman, were separating after 15 years of marriage. And like every separation, the couple has to juggle careers and childcare. But unlike most separated couples, Messing and Zelman are reportedly still living together.

According to USA Today, Messing's rep confirmed the breakup, saying Messing and Zelman "privately separated earlier this year ... The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family." Yet new reports say the couple continues to live with one another despite being broken up for several months. A friend of the couple tells US Weekly that they "have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman," their 7-year-old son. The family moved from Los Angeles to New York recently where Smash is filmed. Back in November, Messing excitedly told LilSugar.com about her family's upcoming holiday plans in New York City. "We love to go skating at Wolman rink, and go see plays . . . Looking forward to putting on the snowsuit and stomping through Central Park."

Messing and Zelman met on their first day of class as graduate students at NYU in 1990. They were married in September 2000 and their son, Roman Walker Zelman, was born in 2004. Zelman serves as the executive producer of the cable drama Damages. Messing rose to fame on the hit NBC show Will & Grace . She won an Emmy for her role as Grace Adler in 2003.
