I had the privilege of co-chairing the Southwestern Law School alumni gala. It was an amazing event where we honored several very well deserving members of the bar and bench. We also raised over $80,000 for the domestic violence advocacy initiative.
In 2015, partner, Patrick Baghdaserians, in his capacity as a member of the Southwestern Board of Directors, created Signing on The Dotted Line, A Family Law Continuing Legal Education Seminar and Award Ceremony held at Southwestern Law School. The program has provided exceptional educational courses taught by some of the best and brightest minds in family law. The seminar has also raised nearly $40,000 in proceeds used primarily for student scholarships. The 2017 conference is already scheduled for June 10, 2017. See link for photos from the June 2015 and June 2016 conferences.
Partner, Patrick Baghdaserians will be serving as the co-chair of the gala this year. The event will be taking place March 9,2017 and funds raised will go to the Domestic Violence Advocacy Initiative. For further information, select this link (Alumni Awards PDF).
Created through the efforts of the firm's partner, Patrick Baghdesarians, the purpose of the Domestic Violence Advocacy Initiative is to provide legal assistance to domestic violence victims and their families within the greater Los Angeles community by way of legal representation. Funds raised during the gala will support newly licensed Southwestern attorneys with a three to six month fellowship stipend to work at a nonprofit legal organization that assists domestic violence victims and their families. Past organizations have included the Harriet Buhai center and Levitt and Quinn. This program, if successful, is a win for all! Victims receive representation, young lawyers get jobs and experience, courts are less clogged with self-represented individuals and SW community outreach is improved tremendously.
